Welcome To
The Colony!

Amid all the new economic development, The Colony is still a community that values the things that have always made this city a great place to live - neighbors helping neighbors, residents volunteering their time and energy for community activities, and quiet, tree-lined streets. The Colony features miles of trails and green space, offering all kinds of outdoor recreation which have earned The Colony designations as both a Tree City USA and a Playful City USA.

Community

From municipal services to leisure activities, business and play, it's all here! We are a vibrant community that embraces economic growth, as evidenced by our landing of the largest home furnishings retail and warehouse development in the nation: Nebraska Furniture Mart of Texas.

As anchor of the 433 acre Grandscape development in the 121 Corridor, NFM is expected to attract between six to eight million visitors a year.

History

The Colony derives its name from the original Peters Colony. The Peters Colony headquarters was located within the current boundaries of The Colony in the historical community of Stewartsville and the site of the Hedgcoxe War.

The Colony did not exist before 1973, when home developers Fox and Jacobs purchased 3,000 acres (1,200 ha) located around State Highway 121 and Farm to Market Road 423. The name "The Colony" was chosen by Fox and Jacobs because they wanted its new development to share a sense of kinship with Texas' early history and "to create a living monument to the spirit and courage of the Peters Colonists.
